YESTERDAY: On October 20, 1969 the parish of Saint Pius X was established. During the weeks that followed, people gathered and worked together to form a parish community. From the very beginning, the parish has been graced with people who are enthusiastic and committed in their faith, and our community today is deeply rooted in that spirit of faith and charity. When we first became a parish we had no church facilities and so we gathered for Mass at Magee Junior High School, affectionately known to us as "St. Magee's". We did have an active and spirited community and within weeks of our founding, a group of women formed the "Margaritas" [named for the mother of St. Pius X] to serve people in illness or need. In early 1970, an Emergency Relief Fund was established to assist neighbors in need. On April 29, 1972 we moved to our new church building. Over 750 families gathered for that first Mass. In the years that followed, we deepened our commitments as an active, giving, supportive community, responding to the needs of both our parish and Tucson at large. A few highlights include the Hermanos Program in 1974, Special Religious Education Classes in 1975, and Outreach Committee, Samaritans, and CEDAS [serving the widowed and divorced]. |

TODAY: Having opened our new Parish Center in 1987, we could
accommodate a growing community, numbering 3,500 families. We serve an ever-growing number of children in our Religious Education Program, and continue to offer the OCIA program to increasing numbers of adults, teens, and children. In addition to Mass, classes and meetings, our Parish Center is home to sports programs, social gatherings, and yearly special events for the whole parish. In response to a growing need in Tucson, in the Winter of 1987-88 St. Pius X led the way to reach out to the homeless, and we continue today to offer shelter to 12-15 men during the coldest months. |

| Over 1500 parishioners are active today, sharing their gifts in one or more volunteer ministries, making Saint Pius X a parish known for its collaborative style of ministry Parishioners work hand in hand with their priests and staff to take responsibility for the life of this parish. | |

TOMORROW: "We are already the children of God, but what we are to become has yet to be revealed." [I John 3:2] The spiritual growth of the members of St. Pius X will continue to lead us to see and respond to the needs of our fellow parishioners, the Diocese of Tucson, our community, and the needs of the oppressed. We respond through sharing the gifts of each individual so that, collectively, we are a sign of God's love for all. We invite you to embrace your part of our tomorrow. Please make known your needs as well as your gifts. Our community grows and the Kingdom is built when we share and meet the needs of one another. |
